May 24, 2015 is the 25th anniversary of the attack on Earth First! activists Judi Bari and Darryl Cherney by car bomb in Oakland in 1990 as Redwood Summer dawned.   The Judi Bari Day event at the Berkeley U-U Fellowship Hall (1924 Cedar at Bonita) will feature special guest performer LAURIE LEWIS, legendary songwriter, fiddler and vocalist.   Doors  7 PM; the program begins at 7:30   After comments and updates by musician and film-maker DARRYL CHERNEY and others, the documentary film “WHO BOMBED JUDI BARI?” will be screened. Join A.I.M. elders, Pomo Indian People & Earth Defenders for a Demonstration in S.F. Nov. 18 to protest desecration of Ancient Pomo Indian Sites!

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Native American Tribal members, including direct descendants of the Pomo peoples who once populated the Little Lake Valley (Mendocino Co.) where Caltrans is currently building an oversized freeway bypass, will join environmental groups and AIM elders to protest the desecration of archaeological sites and destruction of wetlands. The protest will be at the San Francisco office of the Army Corps of Engineers, 1455 Market St. at noon. The Army Corps, as the permitting agency, has the authority to down-size the project, sparing both wetlands and many archaeological sites. You haven’t heard from us for a while. Email alerts from the Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters have gotten scarcer–in large part because of the change in ownership of the redwoods on the formerly Pacific Lumber land–now Humboldt Redwood Company. Our agenda is evolving…but one aspect of our work remains the same: our role in the offshoot group Friends of Headwaters Reserve and our monitoring of the management of the part of the redwood forest that was preserved and passed into public hands via the 1999 Headwaters Deal.
