Commemorating an act of extreme violence against an activist 35 years ago is not an isolated incident. But why is a white environmentalist being violently assaulted 35 years ago relevant in today’s world?
When we have nearly 100,000 people brutally killed, starved and bombed out of their homes by imperialist aggressors, as they lay waste to the land.
When we have people of color just looking to relocate to a place they can earn a living being disappeared to a Central American gulag, When we have people in leadership positions barreling forward with policies to make rich people richer, poor people poorer and our institutions from public agencies to universities less equal, and free speech squashed?
It is relevant because these issues of racism, genocide, imperialism, capitalism and repression of activists and repressions of journalists are all connected. So much of it boils down to power and profit over planet and people
As they say, when we fight we win, but even more to the point, when we fight together, we win. Now, more than ever, it’s a time to raise our fists in the air, howl with the wolves, and build our blockades to stop their war on the earth and her inhabitants.
It is about resisting, standing up, not forgetting and it is about solidarity.
