The Bay Area Forest Activist

Judi Bari Day

July 1, 2004

May 24 was Judi Bari Day, so declared in 2003 by the Oakland City Council. May 24 is also the anniversary of the attempt on Judi's life when a bomb exploded in her car and injured her and Darryl Cherney as they were organizing for Redwood Summer in 1990. Their lawsuit against the FBI and Oakland police was won in 2003, and the FBI and OPD just paid the $4 million award for violation of their Constitutional rights. Judi died of breast cancer in 1997.
