Life threatening situation created by UC police-ordered cutting of life-line ropes 2-19-2008 For Immediate Release - Contact: Ayr at the Grove (Cell in oak trees) Berkeley, CA-After an early morning raid on the long-standing tree-sit protest at the Berkeley Oaks to remove gear, platforms and support equiptment from the tree-sitters, one of the sitters still in the trees was faced with a life-threatening situation when he attempted to use a rope hanging from the tree, not realizing that the other end had been cut by the contract climber sent up by UC police. It appeared the rope was still attached, and its position had not changed since prior to the raid, and the contract climber only took some of the geat, but when the tree-sitter moved on to the rope, a fall from high in the tree was only avoided because the rope happened to snag on a water jug. ![]() << Back to Press Release Archive | Latest Press Release | Newsroom ![]() Subscribe Get action alerts, updates, and other important news in your email inbox by signing up with your email address here: ![]() Learn more about events | See the BACHList FAQ |
